Lab Infrastructure

Zoology Lab provides scientific study of the animal kingdom, along with its evolution, diversity and environment. Our Zoology lab is well equipped with all necessary facilities for higher studies. The equipments are based on the latest technology. Practical work involves building knowledge of both the structure of different kinds of animals and how they function, and the complex relationships that govern how animals relate to each other and their surroundings. Zoology also provides fundamental information on three areas of our society, the environment, food production and human health.

The high tech lab highlights the major concerns of modern zoology in relation to environmental and medical biology, and introduces the young scientists to cell biological and other analytical techniques, fieldwork and computer-aided data handling procedures.

Some important practical covered during the session may be mentioned as Dissection of Animal, Permanent slide preparation ,embryological physiological & cytological experiments, Study of bones, pests, insects & plant, nematodes & edible fishes & parasites, counting of blood cells, study of ecosystem, immunology, biotechnology, animal behaviour, toxicology.

Laboratory has a good arrangement of equipments like Binocular Microscope, Hemoglobinometer, pH meter, Colorimeter, Waterbath, Haemocytometer, Centrifuge , Incubator , Microtome etc.

• S. Manimozhi student of Zoology Department secured 3rd rank in B.Sc Zoology University Examination in the year of 2018.
• Our Department student M. Karthika, B.Sc., Zoology won Gold Medal in University Examination.
• We applied Student Project Proposal to Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education, Chennai.
• We celebrated Science Day celebration on February 28th, 2016.
• We conducted Village adaptation Programme about Dengue awareness Programme in Thedavur on 11th August 2018.
• We celebrated International Elephant Day on 16th August 2019. We conducted various competition like Essay Writing – Man Animal Conflict, Chart Preparation – Elephant Life, Habit and Habitat, Drawing – Elephant life.
• Our department Students has participated in the Science Exhibition on Climate Action Special.
• Our Department Students participated and presented a paper in International and National level conference.

• 9 students from our department participated in the Tamil Nadu State Level Seminar on 11th September 2015 at Naga Institute of Para Medical Science.
• D. Suriya has participated in the poetry competition on Gandhi Jayanthi and Abdulkalam Birthday Celebration during 1st October 2015
• 21 students from our Department participated in 103rd Indian Science Congress Association at University of Mysore held on 3rd to 6th January 2016 at Mysore.
• 7 students from our Department participated in oral presentation in Frontiers in Bioprocess technology and microbial ecology (FBTME-2016) held at Periyar University Salem.

• 25 students from our Department has participated in National conference on Impact of climate change on Biodiversity Conservation Issues and perspectives at Bharathiyar Arts and Science College for women, Deviyakuruchi during 20th and 21st February 2019.
• Our Department student M. Karthiga has secured First Rank with Gold Medal in University Examination.
• Four students from our Department have participated in Rangoli and Zoo chef competition in Animalia held at PG and Research Deapartment of Zoology Jamal Mohamed College, Thiruchirappalli during 10th October 2019.

• Dr. G. Shobana and Dr. G. Durgadevi presented a paper in 103rd Indian Science Congress Association conducted by University of Mysore from 3rd to 7th January in Mysore.
• One day Faculty development program attended by Dr. G. Shobana on 2nd February, 2016 at Knowledge Institute of Technology, Salem.
• On 9th September 2015 our faculty member Dr. G. Durgadevi presented a paper and won Second Prize and Best Presentation Award on 6th National level paper presentation organized by Department of Zoology, Mercy College Palakkad, Kerala.
• Dr. G. Durgadevi presented a paper in KL University Vijayawada (Gundur) Andhra Pradesh conducted by the Department of Biotechnology from 14th Dec to 16th December 2015.
