Ensuring a Safe, Respectful, and Gender-Equal Campus Environment

Establishment & Purpose

According to the UGC Prevention, Prohibition and Redress of Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students in Higher Educational Institutions Regulations, 2021, the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) was established. The Government of India's Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressed) Act 2013 served as the foundation for these laws. An Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) was established by Bharathiyar Arts and Science College for Women (Autonomous) to maintain a secure and healthy environment for female staff and girls on campus.

The Policy of the Committee

A Female Student who is being sexually harassed on Campus, including in the residence hall, may file a complaint with the Committee. The Committee will immediately address the matter and bring it to the Institution's Head's attention. The Committee will recommend corrective and punitive actions to be implemented.

Vision

Our Goal is to establish an Educational setting where everyone's Rights and dignity are valued and preserved, free from sexual harassment, discrimination, and gender-based violence.

Mission

In accordance with UGC Policies and pertinent legislation, our aim is to prevent and address instances of Sexual Harassment through Education, Awareness and efficient redressal methods.

Objectives

To Encourage Students to openly and honestly voice their Complaints and issues without fear of retaliation.
To offer a secure and private forum for reporting and handling Sexual Harassment concerns.
To guarantee that Complaints are promptly and impartially investigated while upholding the due process and natural justice principles.
To support and aid witnesses, respondents, and complaints during the complaint resolution process.
To suggest suitable corrective actions, disciplinary measures, and preventative measures to deal with incidents.
To raise knowledge and understanding of topics pertaining to Sexual Harassment prevention and redress.

Functions

  • Receiving, registering, and investigating Sexual Harassment Complaints.
  • Investigating Complaints impartially protecting confidentiality.
  • Providing assistance and counseling to all involved parties.
  • Recommending corrective steps and disciplinary measures.
  • Educating the Campus community on prevention.

Procedures

  • Complaints must be written (handwritten/printed) with full details.
  • Prompt and impartial investigation upholding rights.
  • Opportunities for mediation or informal settlement when appropriate.
  • Written judgments/suggestions based on UGC rules and findings.
Review and Revision

The policy document shall be subject to periodic review and revision as necessary to ensure compliance with the UGC Regulations and the evolving needs of the College community. Proposed changes shall be considered by the Internal Complaints Committee and approved by the appropriate authorities.
