About the Department
Inspirational Thought
"Without your involvement you can't succeed; with your involvement you can't fail."
– Dr. A.P.J. Abdul KalamEstablished in 2003, the Department of Physics offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to provide students with a strong foundation in physical sciences. The department further expanded its academic programmes with the introduction of the M.Phil. programme during the academic year 2014–2015.
The department is supported by 10 dedicated faculty members and 2 laboratory assistants. Our highly qualified faculty members are actively involved in teaching, research and academic development, providing students with quality education and individual guidance.
Physics is the foundation of most modern technologies. Studying physics develops quantitative reasoning, analytical abilities and problem-solving skills that are valuable across engineering and non-engineering disciplines. A major in Physics provides students with a strong intellectual foundation and prepares them for diverse career opportunities in scientific, technical and research-oriented fields.
Academic Excellence
The department promotes conceptual understanding through theoretical instruction, practical demonstrations and experimental learning. Students explore important areas such as mechanics, optics, spectroscopy, electronics, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, molecular physics and modern physics.
Apart from core Physics programmes, the department also offers Allied and Elective Physics courses to students from other science departments, particularly Chemistry and Mathematics. This interdisciplinary approach encourages students to understand the applications of physics in different scientific fields.
Programmes and Learning Opportunities
The department provides undergraduate and postgraduate learning opportunities through B.Sc. Physics and M.Sc. Physics programmes. Students develop theoretical knowledge, practical competence, research awareness and technical skills through a balanced academic curriculum.
Co-Curricular and Extracurricular Activities
The department regularly organizes workshops, state-level seminars and national-level seminars to expose students to recent scientific developments. National Science Day is celebrated grandly every year on February 28th to promote scientific awareness, innovation and research interest among students.
Along with academic excellence, students are encouraged to participate in curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities. These opportunities help identify and nurture their hidden talents, creativity, leadership qualities and confidence.
Department Vision
